SPOKANE, Wash. – Four Lewis & Clark College men's tennis players won both their matches against Whitworth University on Sunday to secure a 6-3 Northwest Conference road win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pioneers jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play against the Pirates.
Kristian Peev and
Wade McDermott easily dispatched Henry Preacher and Payton Romey 8-2 at the No. 1 spot to start the day. Whitworth evened up the dual at No. 3 doubles when senior
Alberto Dos Santos and freshman
Landon Cronin fell in a close 8-5 match to Jess Weaver and Lance Dunn. Sophomore
Matt Chio and freshman
Kai Wills earned the second point of the day in a hard-fought 8-7(5) No. 2 doubles match against Nathan Tjelle and Ethan Warring.
Peev easily extended the lead with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Tjelle at No. 1 singles, his fourth win of the weekend.
The Pirates picked up the next points in the team matchup with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Cronin fell 6-3, 6-3 to Warring, and Dos Santos lost in a close 7-6 (3), 6-3 match against Romey.
Wills earned the Pioneers' fourth point of the day at No. 6 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Colby Cinqmars.
Chio secured the NWC dual win for Lewis & Clark at the No. 4 spot. He defeated Weaver 7-5, 7-6 (2).
McDermott ended the day with a three-set win at No. 5 singles. He took the first set over Preacher 6-3, then fell 2-6 in the second. The day's final set was a 7-5 decision in McDermott's favor.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Lewis & Clark has won 12 consecutive duals against Whitworth dating back to 2014.
