PORTLAND, Ore. – Lewis & Clark men's tennis earned a come-from-behind 7-2 non-conference victory over East Texas Baptist University Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior
Kristian Peev and freshman
Wade McDermott won the first point of the night for the Pioneers at No. 1 doubles, defeating Jacob Daniell and Jake Gibson 8-3. The Tigers won their only points of the match at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Zachary Couch and Max Karseno won 8-2 over
Landon Cronin and
Alberto Dos Santos at the three spot. Sam Black and Bruno Brocanelli earned the 8-4 win over
Matt Chio and
Kai Wills at No. 2 doubles.
Chio quickly earned the first singles win for the Pioneers at No. 3 singles. He easily dispatched Gibson 6-0, 6-2 to tie the dual. Dos Santos gave the Pioneers the lead for good at No.2 singles, defeating Brocanelli 7-5, 6-4. Wills saw Couch for the second time of the night at No. 5 singles and earned the 6-1, 6-3 win to put the Pioneers up 4-2.
Peev secured the dual with a three-set win at No. 1 singles. Peev took the first set from Black 7-5 before dropping the second set 5-7. The two continued to battle it out, with Peev pulling out the victory 7-5 in the final set.
McDermott also went to three sets in his singles match. The freshman took on Slade Austin in No. 4 singles. McDermott won a tight first set 6-4, then lost the second in a tiebreaker 7-6 (5). The third set was another close battle, with McDermott prevailing 6-4.
Junior
Miles Stone returned to singles play at the No. 6 slot. Stone took the straight-set win over Daniell 6-2, 6-3, for his third singles win of the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Between doubles and singles play, Peev has won eight matches in a row.
- After starting the season 0-7, the Pioneers have gone 4-2, including 2-2 in the Northwest Conference.
- Stone is 3-1 in singles play and 2-1 at the No. 6 spot.

Lewis & Clark plays two exhibition matches this weekend. The first is the annual Alumni match on Saturday. The Pioneers then host Bellevue College on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Dome.
