Pioneers Field Competitors Make Season Debut At George Fox

Freshman Nicholas Stade posted a pair of top-six showings

NEWBERG, Ore.—Lewis & Clark track & field competed in field events for the first time this season on Sunday at the George Fox Indoor Open #1 Meet. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Freshman Nicholas Stade led the Pioneers men's team. In the 60M Hurdles prelims, Stade (9.05) and fellow freshman Jonathan Fritz (9.07) finished fifth and sixth to advance to the finals. Stade improved his PR time to 9.05 in the finals to finish fourth overall. Fritz came in seventh in the finals with a time of 9.17. 
 
Stade also posted a top-10 showing in the pole vault. The Pios freshman cleared 13-01.50 feet to place sixth overall. 
 
Fellow freshman Andrew Baum led a quartet of Lewis & Clark throwers in the shot put. Baum earned the ninth and final spot in the finals and threw a team-best 40-11.00 feet on his first throw of the day. 
 
Senior Elijah Woody placed second on the team (15th overall) with a heave of 37-04.00 feet. Fritz (33-03.25 feet) and Stade (25-10.00 feet) came third and fourth on the team. 
 
Fritz also represented the Pioneers in the high jump. He placed 12th in the event after clearing 5-07.75 feet. 
 
On the women's team, freshman Alma Williams earned a top-10 showing in the high jump. Williams cleared 4-07.75 feet to place seventh overall. 
 
Freshman Nia Pile led a quintet of throwers making their collegiate debut in the shot put. Pile placed 11th overall after throwing 33-06.75 feet. Fellow freshman Piper McCoy Harmon came in second on the team and 14th overall with a heave of 33-02.00 feet. Freshmen Autumn Loporto (30-02.75 feet) and Michèe Brika
(27-04.50 feet) placed third and fourth on the team. Sophomore Olivia Farrar (23-00.50 feet) finished fifth in her first time competing in the event. 
 
Sophomore Cameryn Nagaji led a trio of Pioneers in the long jump. Nagaji took 16th in the event with a leap of 14-05.25 feet. Williams (13-06.75 feet) and freshman Anli Davis (13-01.50 feet) finished in 21st and 22nd place. 
 
Farrar was the lone women's sprinter to compete. She finished 17th in the 60M hurdle prelims with a time of 10.72. 
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Baum and Woody moved into second and third place in program history in the shot put. 
  • Pile (shot put) and Williams (high jump) moved into second place in indoor program history in their respective events. 
  • Fritz moved into third place in program history in the high jump and Stade now sits fourth in the pole vault. 
  • Farrar cracked the top-five in the 60M hurdles and now sits fourth in program history.  
WHAT'S NEXT 
 
The Pioneers will send a group of student-athletes to Spokane for the Whitworth Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
