PORTLAND, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College women's tennis won five of six singles matches to earn a comeback 6-3 win over the University of Oregon Club team on Saturday afternoon at the L&C Tennis Dome.

Lewis & Clark 6, Oregon Club 3 (Exhibition Match)
HOW IT HAPPENED
In their first competition of the spring and first dual match of the season, the Pioneers fell behind 2-1 after doubles but won a pair of three-set singles matches to capture the win over the Ducks. Saturday's match counts as an exhibition match because club teams are not considered countable opponents by the NCAA or ITA. The match will not count for the Pioneers record or season stats.
Freshman
Susanna Anand went a perfect 2-0 to lead the Pioneers. She teamed up with junior transfer
Seraphina Vossen to earn Lewis & Clark's lone win during doubles. The duo knocked off Amanda Pruitt and Myra Bernard 8-4 to tie the match at 1-1.
Oregon opened the match with a doubles victory at number three doubles. Hannah Root and Irin Irivin knocked off
Hayley Kreps and
Kacie Lau 8-1. The Ducks grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles thanks to an 8-4 win at first flight doubles. Ruby Wool and Vy Lam defeated
Caren Uribe and
Arielle Bloom at first doubles.
Lewis & Clark turned the match around thanks to their strong play in singles.
Uribe earned the first win for the Pioneers at number one singles. The sophomore knocked off Wool 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) to even the score at 2-2.
Anand made it a perfect 2-0 day with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Irvin at number two singles.
Bloom extended the Pioneers advantage to 4-2 with a comeback win at third singles. Bloom dropped the first set 6-4 to Lam, before roaring back with consecutive 6-1, 6-2 set wins (4-6, 6-1, 6-2).
Oregon kept their chances alive with a win at fourth singles. Pruitt defeated Vossen 6-0, 6-0 to make it 4-3.
Lewis & Clark earned the win with victories at fifth and sixth singles.
Kreps secured the win at fifth singles. She defeated Hanna Jones 6-4, 6-3 to give the Pioneers a 5-3 advantage.
At number six singles, sophomore
Allison Gabelman earned a comeback of her own to account for the final 6-3 score. Bernard took the opening set 6-4, but Gabelman evened the match with a 6-2 second-set win and then won the super tiebreaker 10-2 to take the point (4-6, 6-3, 10-2).
BY THE NUMBERS
- The two teams played four exhibition matches in addition to the regularly scheduled nine matches.
- Gabelman and freshman Yenenesh Cohen teamed up to earn an 8-6 doubles win over Camilla Morse and Phoebe Ransco.
- In singles action, Kacie Lau, Sujhad Amado Aguad and Sophie McCreary all played singles exhibition matches.
- Saturday's match was the Pioneers first of four home exhibition matches this spring.
WHO'S NEXT
Lewis & Clark will travel to Southern California to play a trio of schools from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Pios will open their trip on Friday at 4 p.m., when they take on Occidental College in Los Angeles.
