Track & Field Improves Upon Three Program Records At Last Chance Meet

Malia Heien and Nicholas Stade each reset their own program marks on Saturday

SEATTLE, Wash.—Freshmen Malia Heien and Nicholas Stade each set program records for Lewis & Clark indoor track & field on Day 2 of the Ken Shannon Last Chance Invitational

HOW IT HAPPENED

Heien, who was running the 800m for the second time in her collegiate career, broke her own program record by over two seconds. The freshman ran a collegiate PR time of 2:17.94 to place 31st in a field of all Division I runners.

Stade broke two of his own program records to cap off a successful weekend.

He started the day in the 60m hurdles, where he placed 11th with a time of 9.11 seconds. Stade moved on to the pole vault where he cleared 4.00m (13-01.50 feet) to finish in ninth place.

The freshman notched his two program records in the final event of the day. In the 1000m race, Stade placed seventh overall and beat his previous program record by over two seconds to finish in 2:49.31.

With his 773 points in the event, Stade finished the heptathlon with a new PR in the event by 13 total points (4,480 points).

Sophomore Riley Buese, who set the indoor program record in the 5K on Friday, was the only other competitor in action for the Pioneers on Saturday. Buese placed 35th in the 3,000m with a time of 10:38:42.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Heien's time in the 800m was 2.31 seconds faster than her time three weeks ago at the Portland Indoor #2 Meet.
  • Stade's record time in the 1,000m saw him lower his PR time by 2.36 seconds.
  • After this weekend's last chance meet, Buese ranks 29th in the 5K and 61st in the 3K in Division III. Heien is 71st in the 800m and the Pioneers women's Distance Medley Relay team sits 75th overall.
  • With his improved score, Stade is up to 49th in Division III in the heptathlon. Fellow freshman Jonathan Fritz is 72nd and sophomore Max Aldrich is 92nd in the 5k.
