Multiple Pioneers played close sets in non-conference loss.

PORTLAND, Ore. – For the second consecutive match, the score doesn't tell the entire story as Lewis & Clark College men's tennis fell to Pacific University 8-1 in a non-conference match that saw four tiebreaks and a super tiebreak.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Junior Miles Stone won at number six singles 7-5, 6-2 over Pacific's Ryley Chang to earn the lone point of the match for the Pioneers.

The morning started with doubles play, and all three matches were close between the Pioneers and the Boxers. In the number one doubles match, senior Kristian Peev and freshman Wade McDermott dropped an 8-5 decision to Pacific's Quentin Gonzalez and Aidan Rooney. The team of sophomore Matt Chio and freshman Kai Wills dropped the number two doubles match 8-5 to Nicholas Koulisis and Benjamin Dubois. Stone teamed up with freshman Bennett Gazor at the number three spot, where they fell in a tiebreak 8-7 (7-4) to Koby Murata and Chang.

Peev and Gonzalez would meet again in an exciting match at number one singles. The first set went to a tiebreak that Gonzalez won 7-6 (7-4). The second set almost went to another tiebreak, but Peev fell 7-5 in that set.

Senior Alberto Dos Santos took on Murata in the number three spot. Murata jumped out to a 6-1 lead after the first set. Dos Santos fought back to take the second in a tiebreak 7-6 (8-6) and force the third set super tiebreak. Dos Santos fell 10-5 in the third.

Wills and Dubois faced off against each other at number four singles. The Pioneer freshman dropped a close first set 7-6 (7-5). Dubois took the second set from Wills 6-3.

At number 5 singles, McDermott lost to Rooney 6-0, 7-5. Chio fell 6-1, 6-2 at the second spot to Koulisis.
