Thousand Oaks, Calif. – Lewis & Clark College men's tennis fell to California Lutheran University on Saturday morning 9-0 in their second of three Southern California road matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior
Alberto Dos Santos and freshman
Wade McDermott went to a tiebreak in their doubles match against the Kingsmen's Zhiyuan Wei and Cade Haffner, losing 8-7 (10-8). The other Pioneers senior/freshman doubles team of
Kristian Peev and
Landon Cronin fell 8-2 in number one doubles, while sophomore
Matt Chio and freshman
Kai Wills dropped an 8-4 decision at the number two doubles spot.
Dos Santos lost the number four singles match 6-3, 7-5 to Cal Lutheran's Aaron Meylan.
Chio took Jacob De La Paz to three sets. He won the second set 6-2 after falling 6-1 in the first set. Chio nearly got a point for the Pios before a 10-8 decision in the third and final set.
Peev lost at number one singles 6-2, 6-3, and Cronin dropped a 6-1, 6-4 number two singles match.
The number five and six singles matches were played by Wills and McDermott. Wills fell 6-1, 6-1, and McDermott lost 6-2, 6-3.
BY THE NUMBERS
- This is only the second time Lewis & Clark and Cal Lutheran have met in men's tennis. The Pioneers won the first meeting 9-0.
- The Dos Santos/McDermott doubles tiebreak was the first time the Pioneers have had a tiebreak in either doubles or singles this season.
- Lewis & Clark is 3-4 in three-set matches this season.
