PORTLAND, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College women's basketball recorded their best field goal percentage in almost two years, but Multnomah University produced one of their best shooting games of the year to earn a 95-69 non-conference victory on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Seniors
Charlotte Carroll (4-for-8) and
Karli Mukai (5-for-10) each shot 50% from the floor and were the only players to finish in double digits to lead the Pioneers against the Lions. Carroll made a career-high 11 free throws, scored a season-high 19 points, had five rebounds, and was one of four players to have three assists in the game. Mukai made a team-high five field goals while adding a rebound and a steal.
Fellow senior
Jamison Richards and sophomore
Emily Newton hit two three-pointers each to finish with nine points apiece. The two guards not only hit from long range but each dished out three assists, while Richards had three rebounds and two steals.
Freshman
Lauryn Frederickson finished with eight points on the night, pulled down a team-high six rebounds, and was the fourth player to have three assists in the game.
Madilyn Palosi made her collegiate debut against Multnomah, scored three points, pulled down four boards and added two assists in 18 minutes. The freshman hit a three-pointer for her first collegiate basket with 3:37 left before halftime.
After missing the first five games of the season due to injury, sophomore
Madelyn Sanchez saw her first action with three rebounds and two points in six minutes of play.
Senior
Natalie Elstone and freshman
Kaela Guidry rounded out the scoring for the Pioneers with five and four points, respectively. Elstone had the lone block for Lewis & Clark while adding three rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Guidry added two boards in her nine minutes of play.
Multnomah jumped out to an 8-0 lead two minutes into the game. A three by Richards cut the lead to 10-5, but Lewis & Clark would get no closer. The Lions held a 17-8 lead at the media timeout and used a 17-9 run to close out the first quarter with a 34-17 lead after shooting 63.6%.
The Pioneers had their highest-scoring quarter of the year in the second stanza with 21 points, but the Lions shot over 57% from the field to take a 63-38 lead into the break.
Carroll and Mukai each scored four points in the middle of the third period as the Pioneers went on an 8-0 run of the game to cut the Lions' lead to 70-48. A 9-0 run, the Pios' largest of the game, to start the fourth quarter pulled Lewis & Clark within 20 points.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pioneers shot 44.6% from the field for their highest percentage since an 85-82 win at Occidental on December 19, 2021.
- Newton scored nine of the Pioneers 18 bench points.
- Lewis & Clark recorded a season high 17 assists in the loss.
