PORTLAND, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College women's basketball took advantage of a team technical foul against Warner Pacific University with nine seconds left in regulation to tie the game and head to overtime, where they outscored the home team 14-6 and earned their first win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior
Jamison Richards scored nine of their 14 points in the first quarter, and fellow senior
Karli Mukai put up seven points in overtime to finish with a team-high 16 to lead the Pioneers over the Knights.
Freshmen
Lauryn Frederickson (eight points) and
Kaela Guidry (seven points), and sophomore
Emily Newton (seven points) finished third and fourth on the team in scoring. Frederickson had four rebounds and played a team-high 43 minutes. Guidry scored five points in the overtime period and ended with three boards in her collegiate debut. Newton added three rebounds and an assist.
Warner Pacific took a 10-3 lead with 6:37 left in the first quarter for their largest lead of the game. Senior
Charlotte Carroll hit a jumper 20 seconds later and started a 7-2 Lewis & Clark fun that ended with a three by Frederickson to tie the game at 12 with 4:11 left in the opening quarter. Richards hit a three-pointer with just under a minute to go, and the Pioneers held a 19-15 lead at the end of one after a 7-3 run.
The Knights hit a three to start the second quarter, but senior
Natalie Elstone responded with her own score from behind the arc to make it 22-18 at the 9:19 mark. Warner Pacific took a 24-22 lead at 5:02, their first since 14-12. Freshman
Zoë Anderson hit a jump shot 20 seconds before the half, and then the Knights made one of two free throws as the Pioneers went into the break with a 32-30 lead.
The Pioneers hit three baskets from downtown to end the third quarter to hold a 47-42 lead. Newton made her three at 5:21 to go up 41-34, then Anderson drained a three to make it 44-38 at 1:41, and Mukai followed that with a long basket for the 47-40 lead with 36 seconds left in the quarter.
Lewis & Clark held off Warner Pacific to start the fourth quarter as the Knights pulled within 49-48 at 7:04 and 51-50 at 4:25. Richards hit a jumper with 34 seconds left in regulation to put the Pioneers up 53-50. The Knights took the lead, 54-53, after two made free throws with 10 seconds left in regulation. A miscommunication during a Warner Pacific substitution on the inbound after the free throws led to a team technical for the Knights for six players on the court. Richards made the second of the two technical free throws to tie the game at 54. The Pioneers were unable to get a shot off before time expired.
Newton put the Pioneers in front for the final time with a layup 13 seconds into overtime. Mukai extended the lead to 60-55 with her second three of the game at 2:34. Guidry made layups on back-to-back Lewis & Clark possessions for a 64-57 advantage. Mukai ended the game by hitting four of six free throws and gave the Pioneers their largest lead, 67-58, with 25 seconds left.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Elstone and Richards finished with a team-high five rebounds each, while Frederickson and freshman Divinity Singleton were second on the team with four boards.
