PORTLAND, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College women's basketball pulled within four points early in the fourth quarter before Walla Walla University went on a 26-4 run to earn a 76-56 non-conference win on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Seniors
Charlotte Carroll and
Natalie Elstone led the Pioneers with 12 and 11 points, respectively, while sophomore
Emily Newton provided a spark off the bench with eight points to tie her career-high against the Wolves.
After falling behind 8-0 to start the game, Lewis & Clark hit three buckets from beyond the arc to pull with 10-9. They took their largest lead in the game when senior
Karli Mukai striped Walla Walla of the ball and ran down the court for an easy layup and a 13-10 lead at 4:24 in the first quarter. The Wolves went on a 9-2 run to close the quarter and take control. The Pioneers would get as close as 19-16 to start the second half but would go into the break down 35-25.
Lewis & Clark outscored Walla Walla 19-16 in the third quarter and pulled within seven points after being down 45-28 early in the stanza. Newton found freshman
Kaela Guidry with 90 seconds left in the third for a layup to pull with 45-39 and cap an 11-0 run. The duo scored 11 of the Pioneers' 19 third-quarter points to keep the score close heading into the final frame. Freshman
Lauryn Frederickson nabbed the ball from the Wolves with 12 seconds left and finished with a layup to make it 51-44 heading into the final 10 minutes.
Carroll hit a jump shot off a pass from Elstone to make it 52-48 with 8:19 left in the game. Elstone drove for a layup at 6:50 to make it 59-50, and Mukai hit a jumper at 3:53 to cut the lead to 11 (63-52), but the Pioneers would not hit another field goal the rest of the game. Freshman Zoe Anderson and Carroll each made a pair of free throws in the final 22 seconds to end a three-plus minute scoring drought.
