They took their largest lead in the game when senior Karli Mukai striped Walla Walla of the ball and ran down the court for an easy layup and a 13-10 lead at 4:24 in the first quarter. The Wolves went on a 9-2 run to close the quarter and take control. The Pioneers would get as close as 19-16 to start the second half but would go into the break down 35-25.

Newton found freshman Kaela Guidry with 90 seconds left in the third for a layup to pull with 45-39 and cap an 11-0 run. The duo scored 11 of the Pioneers' 19 third-quarter points to keep the score close heading into the final frame. Freshman Lauryn Frederickson nabbed the ball from the Wolves with 12 seconds left and finished with a layup to make it 51-44 heading into the final 10 minutes.

Carroll hit a jump shot off a pass from Elstone to make it 52-48 with 8:19 left in the game. Elstone drove for a layup at 6:50 to make it 59-50, and Mukai hit a jumper at 3:53 to cut the lead to 11 (63-52), but the Pioneers would not hit another field goal the rest of the game.
