Pacific Lutheran jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals in the 7th and 18th minutes by Trevor Thompson and Craig Johnson, the top two scorers for the Lutes. Garan made four of his six saves in the first half; two of those stops were shots made by the Lutes' fourth-leading scorer, Robby Guyer.

Garan recorded his fifth save on another Johnson attempt at 57:57. Sammy Tafolla extended the Lutes' lead to 4-0 when his corner kick hit the back of the net at the far post at 61:55. Johnson booted a ball from the left side of the box in the 65th minute, but Garan deflected the ball in the lower right corner and out for his sixth save of the game.
