HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was quiet compared to the second, as the teams combined for six shots in the opening 45 minutes, and 15 shots after the break. The Boxers' Adam Landy provided the only shot on goal for either team in the first half. Landy intercepted a Pioneers' pass in the 18
th minute, raced downfield, snuck past his defender, and ran into a sliding Garan, who intercepted his shot attempt and prevented the early score. Lewis & Clark's best chance in the first half came when junior
Wesley Esparza Salazar booted a free kick to the far post, and sophomore
Aashir Walson's header missed just wide.
Ben Schwartz returned to the pitch for the Pioneers and drew a penalty at 48:38. Schwartz had the ball in the middle of the box when Pacific's Aidan Pierias received the red card on the push. Boxers' keeper, Zach Aderinto blocked the PK with a dive to his left. After a quick clearance, Schwartz was back in the box again, and Aderinto saved a second attempt by the sophomore. The Pioneers kept the pressure on, and freshman
Owen Carroll sent a third attempt towards the Pacific keeper in under a minute.
Landy attempted to put the Boxers on the board again with a light tap past a creeping Garan at 59:06, but freshman
Emmett Olson used his speed and made a sliding goal-line clearance to save the score.
Pacific's Cooper Hopkins booted a shot from the top of the box that ricocheted off Garan's gloves. The Boxers' Aiden Himes was there with a point-blank shot back to Garan, which bounced off for another point-blank shot by Noah Gosch, which sailed left of the goal.
Lewis & Clark freshman
Nathaniel Pi-Sunyer lined up a shot on the near post at 75:50 to attempt to take the lead, but the shot bounced off the crossbar and back into play.
With under seven minutes left in the game, Pacific's Brodie Buchert found Conor Barres in the middle of the box, who bounced a header off the turf and into the net just past the stretched hand of a diving Garan.
