HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pioneers struck first when senior Jack Henderson hit a jumper to start the game, but the Pirates went on an 8-0 run to take a 10-2 lead. The Pios would fight back and take an 11-10 lead off a stepback three from senior Brenden Patrick. The two teams exchanged leads a few more times before Whitworth took the lead at 17-16 for good off two free throws from Jake Holtz with 9:19 left in the half. Lewis & Clark would get within a point after senior Grant Stewart knocked down two free throws with just under six minutes to go. The Pirates then used a 13-6 scoring run to head into halftime. Henderson (10) and grad student Tyler McFarland (8) led the Pios' scoring in the first 20 minutes.

The second half started with a 6-2 Pioneer run to pull the team within 37-33 off a Henderson jump shot in the paint. The Pirates followed that up with a 12-2 run and continued to build their lead. At the 12-minute media timeout, Whitworth led 56-44. The Pirates held their largest lead, 73-50, with 5:16 left. Coming out of the final media timeout, McFarland scored his Pioneer career-high 15th point. Sophomore Sebastian DePrez hit two free throws to cut the lead to 73-57 with two and a half minutes to go. Whitworth would hold on from there for the win.
