Brenden Patrick scored the final four points of the game to reach 1000 in his career and secure the Northwest Conference win against visiting George Fox University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior
Jack Henderson hit two three-pointers before the first media timeout to give Lewis & Clark an 8-5 lead in Saturday night's game against the Bruins that saw eight ties and nine lead changes. The Pioneers extended the lead to 17-9 in the first eight minutes. Patrick gave the Pios their largest lead of the night when he drove the length of the court and made the layup to make the score 33-17 with 5:34 before halftime. George Fox chopped into the lead with a 14-3 run to close out the first half and pull within 36-31.
The Bruins hit a three nine seconds after the break to cut the Pioneers' lead to two, and they tied the game for the second time of the night at 43 with 14:33 left in the game. Sophomore
Khalil Glover-Dodson grabbed an offensive rebound on the next possession and drew the foul to head to the line. He hit the second of the two free throws. After the Bruins missed a jump shot, Glover-Dodson pulled down the defensive board and hit a jumper of his own to give the Pios a 46-43 lead.
Junior
Nikko Echalas hit a floating jumper in the paint with 10:47 left for a 53-51 lead, but the Bruins would go on a 6-0 run for their largest lead of the night. Echalas scored the Pioneers' next eight points to pull within 63-61 at the 6:36 mark. Glover-Dodson hit a second-chance jump shot and drew another foul for the and one with 5:30 left. The two teams would exchange leads, with neither pulling ahead more than four points the rest of the game.
With a minute left in the game, Glover-Dodson pulled down an offensive rebound and drew another foul to make it to the charity stripe. He hit both free throws to tie the game at 72. Patrick hit the go basket with seven seconds left in the game and notched his 999
th point. George Fox had a chance to tie the game but missed two free throws with three seconds left, and sophomore
Sebastian DePrez crashed the board for the rebound. The Pioneer bench immediately called a timeout to draw up an inbound play. Patrick was fouled on the inbound and went to the free-throw line. His first made free throw gave Patrick his 1,000
th career point. He secured the win with his second shot from the line. Glover-Dodson intercepted the Bruins' inbound play to end the game.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Glover-Dodson, Henderson, and Sophomore Ryan Trunkett each pulled down seven boards. The Pioneers outrebounded the Bruins 40-21.
- Patrick is the 38th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. He's the third-straight Pioneers men's player (Jason Luhnow ('16) and Zeke Crawford ('20)) to reach the mark at home and the second-straight (Crawford) to hit the milestone on a free throw.
- The Pioneers finished the game shooting 48.3 percent (28-58) from the field, 9-18 (50 percent) from three, and 84.6 percent (11-13) from the free throw line.
- Patrick reached 1,000 points in just 66 games. The senior, who did not have a sophomore season due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, is averaging 15.15 points per game for his career. This season, he leads the Northwest Conference with his 21.3 points per game and is averaging a league-best 21.6 points per game in conference play.
- Lewis & Clark has now won three of their past four games in the final 10 seconds of action. Last weekend, Echalas hit game-winners in both contests with less than one second to go in regulation.
- With the win, the Pioneers improved to 6-3 at home and 2-1 in NWC home games.
- At the midway point of the NWC season, the Pioneers (4-4) are tied for the fourth and final playoff spot with Pacific University (4-4). The Boxers currently hold the tiebreaker after the Pioneers in the two team's NWC opener on November 29.
