Women’s Basketball Drops NWC Road Contest to Lutes

Three players combine for 39 points to lead Pios in loss.

Tacoma, Wash. – Despite career-scoring highs from senior Gabby Beltran and freshman Tatiana Rebanal, Lewis & Clark College could not slow down previously winless Pacific Lutheran University in a conference road loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior Charlotte Carroll hit a jumper a little less than a minute into the game to even the score at two, but the Lutes utilized a 12-0 run to lead 20-13 at the end of one. Beltran was perfect from the field and the charity stripe in the first quarter and scored five of her career-high 12 points in the first ten minutes.
 
Rebanal scored six of her career-high 11 points in the first half, including going 4-5 from the free throw line. At the half, Pacific Lutheran held a 40-23 lead.
 
The Pioneers outscored the Lutes 20-17 in the third quarter. Carroll exploded for 12 of her team-high 16 points in the third. She shot 4-7 from the field and 4-6 from the line. The Lutes held a 57-43 advantage going into the final quarter.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Carroll and Beltran each pulled down six boards. Beltran also led the team with four steals and three assists.
  • Junior Karli Mukai finished the game with five points, going 5-8 at the line.
  • Sophomore Ashley Young finished with a career-high four points.
  • Senior Kendal Jones chipped in four points and pulled down three boards. Mukai and Rebanal also hit the glass for three rebounds each.
  • The Pioneers made a season-high 21 free throws off 30 attempts.

The Pioneers return to Tacoma on Friday to take on Puget Sound in an NWC matchup at 6 p.m.
