Two Late Goals Lift Willamette Past Men's Soccer

Kaushal Riedman recorded an assist on Monday night

SALEM, Ore.—Willamette University senior forward Josh Schneider scored two goals in the final 10 minutes, to lift the host Bearcats past Lewis & Clark College men's soccer in an exhibition game on Monday night.

THE BASICS
Willamette 3, Lewis & Clark 1
(Lewis & Clark 0-2)
(Willamette 6-0-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Facing off against a future conference opponent for the second time this season, Lewis & Clark managed to play an extremely tight game for over 80 minutes, before the hosts managed a pair of quick strikes.

Freshman Ben Schwartz scored his second goal of the season to tie the game early in the second half. Center back Kaushal Riedman set up the goal for his first assist of the year.

In net, freshman goalie Ben Tallent made four saves on seven shots in the loss.

Willamette opened the scoring just past the five-minute mark of the first half. Simon Stein found Max Albano at the edge of the box and Albano curled a shot across the goalmouth for a 1-0 advantage.

The Pioneers tied the game just over 50 minutes later. After a strong start to the half that saw Aashir Walson and Andrés Soto Hernández generate shots, Schwartz scored on Lewis & Clark's first shot on goal of the game. Riedman played a thru-ball from just inside the Pioneers half and Schwartz ran on to the pass, before blasting a shot from just inside the 18-yard box.

The two sides would combine for just one shot on goal over the next 20+ minutes, before Willamette picked up the intensity in the final 10 minutes.

The Bearcats hit the crossbar at 81:29 and Schneider followed up on Abdul Ali's rebound to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

Eighty-two seconds later Schneider made it 3-1 with an unassisted goal.

Aidan McPheeters recorded two shots in the final four minutes, but the Pioneers were unable to find a way to cut into the deficit.
