Women's Soccer Loses Heart Breaker in NWC Home Opener

Puget Sound scored the loan goal of the game in the 82nd minute

Portland, Ore. – Lewis & Clark women's soccer lost a hard-fought battle against the University of Puget Sound in their Northwest Conference home opener Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pioneers and Loggers played a solid defensive game through 81 minutes. The lone goal scored was a free kick by Puget Sound forward Ava Cholakian in the 82 minute after Radhika Webster Schultz was fouled just outside the box.

Junior goalkeeper, Sofia Young, had seven saves in 90 minutes for the Pios. Brecklyn Beighle, a senior midfielder, also played the full 90 and had three of Lewis and Clarks nine shots, including two of their five on goal. Freshman forward Megan Yanagi added two shots with one on goal in the loss.

Cholakian led the Loggers with six shots on goal and eight total, while senior goalie, Chaylea Tome, had five saves.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Saturday's match was the Pios' first lost to the Loggers since 2019 and ended a 3-game win streak for Lewis & Clark.
  • The Pioneers held a 7-6 advantage to shots going into halftime but were outshot 7-2 in the final 45 minutes.
  • Both teams committed 13 fouls in the game; 12 of the Pios' fouls were in the second half.
