KEY MOMENTS

"Our guys, especially Matt (Chio) were feeling a little sore, but we still managed to sweep against Willamette today," assistant coach Phalkun Mam said. "Conditions were a little tricky playing outdoors in the cold and wind. Number one doubles struggled with their serves and won the match going the distance to the tiebreaker and won 7-3."

The Pioneers cruised at second and third doubles. Matt Chio and Dos Santos easily earned an 8-1 win and Atticus Pallock and Miles Stone picked up an 8-2 win at third doubles.

In the first doubles match, Kristian Peev and Logan Hausler battled back-and-forth with Quentin Nigbur and Andrew Kropp before earning an 8-7 (7-3) victory.

Stone extended the Pioneers lead to 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Andre Lief at fifth singles.

Peev matched his teammate's result, when he clinched the match victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number one singles.

Lewis & Clark made it 6-0 at sixth singles, when Pallock dominated Jesus Barocio Garibay 6-1, 6-1.

Dos Santos defeated Trey Allen 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles to push the lead to 7-0.

Chio added a 6-0, 6-2 win at second singles.

In the tightest singles match of the day, Hausler outlasted Nigbur 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 10-5 in a third-set super tiebreaker win.

"Logan really had to focus on what he was capable of doing, but he found the poise needed to overcome the conditions and his opponent in the end," Mam detailed.

DEEPER LOOK

  • Pallock earned his first collegiate doubles win and went 2-0 in a match for the first time in his career.
  • Dos Santos and Peev each earned their first 6-0, 6-0 singles wins of the season.
  • Lewis & Clark has now won 14-straight matches over the Bearcats. Eight of those wins have been by 9-0 scores.

LOOKING AHEAD

Lewis & Clark will close out Northwest Conference play next weekend, when they host Whitworth (Saturday at 11 a.m.) and Whitman (Sunday at 11 a.m.). The Pioneers (4-2) are in a strong position to make the NWC Tournament with at least one victory.
