Box Score PASADENA, Calif.—Lewis & Clark baseball erupted for 11 runs in the top of the eighth inning and senior outfielder Dylan Moore threw 2.1 innings in relief to earn the win, to lead the Pioneers to a 16-11 victory over host Caltech on Sunday.
After giving up seven runs and the lead in the bottom of the seventh, Lewis & Clark sent 16 batters to the plate and used seven hits, four walks and one hit by pitch, to put together their third double-digit run inning of the season.

KEY MOMENTS
Every Pioneer starter recorded an RBI and the Pioneers racked up 14 hits and eight walks, to secure their third-straight win and 19th victory of the season.
With the Pioneers short on pitching, Moore proved to be a two-way hero. The senior who had made 19 appearances on the bump in his first three years, pitching the final 2.1 innings to pick up his second collegiate win. Moore allowed three hits, three walks, one run and struck out two. At the plate, Moore finished 2-6 with two runs and one RBI.
Freshman Justin Cavagnaro paced the Pioneers with four hits in six at-bats. He added one run, two RBI and a double. Fellow freshman Brennen Davis also had a huge day at the dish. Davis went 2-5 with three runs scored, four RBI and a two-run home run.
Jack Thomson went 1-4 with a run, two RBI, a walk and yet another hit by pitch. Jack Savant chipped in a hit, two runs, two walks and an RBI.
The Pioneers opened the game by using their top two starters for three innings apiece.
After starting on Tuesday, Brett Pierson went the opening three innings and scattered two hits, two walks and an unearned run, while striking out three. Luke Ritter came on for the middle three frames and allowed seven hits and three runs. The Beavers put the pressure on in the seventh inning and forced Lewis & Clark to use three pitchers, with Moore going the final 2.1 innings.
Lewis & Clark jumped out to a strong start on Sunday as they claimed a 4-0 lead after two.
In the first, Savant walked, stole second with two outs and raced home on a Cavagnaro RBI double.
The Pioneers made it 4-0 in the second. Zack Kon worked a leadoff walk and scored on a one-out Moore RBI single. With two down, Davis ripped a home run over the left-field fence to push the lead to four.
Lewis & Clark added a single run in the sixth to push their advantage to 5-1, but the hosts wouldn't go down quietly.
Caltech scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to get within one and then seven in the seventh to grab an 11-5 edge.
With their backs against the wall, Lewis & Clark responded with their second 11-run inning of the season against the Beavers.
Casey Parsons led off the inning with a hit by pitch and Moore and Blake Tellinghusen each singled to load the bases. The Beavers recorded the first out of the inning when they threw out the lead runner on a fielder's choice. Savant walked to plate the first run of the inning and Tellinghusen scampered home on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 11-7.
After a Thomson hit by pitch loaded the bases and forced a pitching change, Cavagnaro singled to score Davis. Mason Lee worked a bases-loaded walk to make it 11-9 and Kon followed with an RBI single of his own to cut the deficit to one. Parsons, in his second at-bat of the inning, worked another bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 11-11.
Caltech went to a third reliever in the inning and Matthew Szedlock struck out the first batter he faced for the second out. Tellinghusen earned yet another bases-loaded walk to take the lead and Davis laced a two-run single to open up a three-run cushion. Savant loaded the bases back up with a single and Thomson came through with a two-run single to cap off the inning.
The Beavers put two runners on in each of the final two frames, but Moore posted a pair of strikeouts and induced a double play to get out of trouble.

- The Pioneers improved to 5-0 this season against Caltech with the win. In the five wins over the Beavers, Lewis & Clark averaged 16.8 runs per game and 15 hits per contest.
- Davis set new career-highs in runs (three) and RBI (four) and Cavagnaro registered career-highs in hits (four) and RBI (two).
- Thomson became the seventh player in program history to reach 40 RBI in a single-season on Sunday. He currently sits tied for sixth in program history for RBI in a single-season. He also moved into the top-10 for hits in a single-season (53, t-10th).
- Moore made his first pitching appearance since last season's finale. He pitched 0.1 innings to earn the save in a 13-10 victory over Whitworth on May 7, 2021.
- With the win, Lewis & Clark finishes their final California trip 3-1. The Pioneers improved to 9-4 in non-conference action.
- Pierson became the 15th pitcher in program history to reach 100 career strikeouts. With his three strikeouts, Pierson is up to 102 career strikeouts in 95.2 innings pitched.

Lewis & Clark's next scheduled game is on Friday, when the Pioneers host Whitworth University in the first two games of a three-game conference set. Lewis & Clark enters the final week of NWC play at 10-10, just a half-game behind George Fox University (11-10) for the final playoff spot in the NWC Tournament.
