Women's Soccer Finishes Deadlocked With Pacific

Portland, Ore. –Freshman Delaney Jones earned her first collegiate shutout in her first collegiate start, to lead Lewis & Clark to a 0-0 tie against visiting Pacific University.Ā

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Boxers had a corner kick in the game's fourth minute that found Mirella Garcia at the back post. Pios' sophomore defender Abby Hayes was there to record a team save and prevent an early goal. Lewis & Clark outshot Pacific 5-4 in the first half. Jones started her first collegiate soccer game and had both of her saves in the first 45 minutes.Ā

After halftime, the Pioneers increased their pressure and outshot the Boxers 12-2. In the 78th minute of the game, junior Celeste Schreifels found an open Megan Yanagi. The freshman forward kicked a firm ball from ten yards out, but Boxer keeper Kylie Pascual made a diving block to prevent the goal. It was the second of three shots on goal for Yanagi, who tied her career-high.Ā

  • Grad student Sara Klott, senior Brecklyn Beighle, juniors Shreifels, Sasha Raimondo, and Giselle Bodeen all recorded a shot on goal.Ā 
  • Three Pios are in the top ten in the NWC for shots per game. Beighle is fourth with 2.72, Schreifels is sixth with 1.94, and Yanagi is tied for ninth with 1.78.Ā
