Puget Sound Takes Down Volleyball 3-0

Sophomore Emily Strand posted a career-high 8 kills in the loss

Tacoma, Wash. – The University of Puget Sound swept Lewis and Clark College volleyball in Northwest Conference play Saturday night.Ā

HOW IT HAPPENED

For the second night in a row, the Pioneers started the opening set of a match on a 3-1 run. There were five tie scores in the first 14 points of the set. The Loggers took the lead for good at 8-7. Lewis and Clark kept fighting and, with the help of Emily Strand's four kills, pulled to within 21-20. Puget Sound then used a 4-1 run to close the set.Ā

The Pios jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second set. The first 14 points again saw multiple tie scores, but the Loggers prevailed to lead 8-7. Puget Sound did not look back as they used an 18-5 run to head into the break.Ā

Lewis and Clark went up 2-0 to start the final set off another Strand kill. Puget Sound then went on an 8-2 run. For the third time in the match, the Pios would pull to within 8-7 off an Ellie Weber and Annika Traxler block. The Loggers controlled the rest of the match, and the Pioneers would get no closer than 24-20.Ā

  • Strand led the team with a career-high eight kills on the night.Ā 
  • Ashley Kane tied her career high by dishing out 18 assists.Ā 
  • Izzy Willis had seven kills in the match and has 100 kills this season.
  • Traxler and Weber both had two block assists.Ā
