(Lewis & Clark 1-11, NWC 0-7)
(Willamette 6-7, NWC 5-2)
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
The Pios started strong in the first set, jumping to a 9-5 lead on an
Ellie Weber kill. After a Willamette timeout, they extended the lead to 11-5. Back-to-back attack errors gave Lewis and Clark a 16-9 lead in the opener. Willamette used an 8-1 run after their second timeout to tie the set at 17. The teams traded points before a Pio attack error gave the Bearcats the lead for good in the set.Â
Â
Lewis and Clark started the second set up 3-2 with an
Izzy Willis kill. Willamette took control of the set from that time. A block by Willis and
Emma Ehlers stopped a 21-6 Bearcats run, but it was too much for the Pios to overcome.Â
Â
The Pioneers kept the third set close and were down 11-10 after a solo block by Ehlers. The Bearcats then took control with runs of 6-0 and 5-0 to come away with the win.Â
Â
BY THE NUMBERS
- Weber led the team with nine kills and a .200 hitting percentage.Â
- Katie Shimaura led the team with 12 digs and reached 500 career digs in the match. Â
- Willis is seven kills away from 100 kills this season and 20 from 400 in her career.Â
