HOW IT HAPPENED
Ā
The Pios put the pressure on the Blues from the opening kickoff. In the first 30 minutes of the game, Lewis and Clark College had a 7-0 shot advantage. Their best look to that point happened when senior
Olivia Cowley booted the ball high in the air, and junior
Celeste Schreifels ran into the box for the shot on goal. The Blues goalkeeper, Hanna Hagler, ran out to make a point-blank save.Ā
Ā
In the 38th minute of the game, senior
Madi Pastores found freshman
Megan Yanagi in the box. Yanagi bulled through a defender and chipped the on-rushing keeper from 14-yards out to put Lewis and Clark College on top. The score gave Pastores her first assist of the season and the second of her career. The Pios ended the half with ten more shots (12-2) than Whitman.Ā
Ā
The Pioneers continued to attack the goal in the second half. Senior
Brecklyn Beighle made a twisting shot from 20 yards out that forced a full-extension save by Hagler in the 68th minute. Whitman's best attempt at tying the game came in the 78th minute when Lindsay Honart had two shots blocked by Pio defenders. Lewis and Clark junior keeper Sofia Young saved Lise Arrouye's shot on goal. The Blues had only two shots on goal for the game.Ā Ā
