Box Score 2 PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Senior Day recognition ceremony was on-time prior to the Lewis & Clark Pioneers series-ending doubleheader with the Puget Sound Loggers on Saturday. A two-plus hour rain delay caused a long wait before first pitch.
Seniors David Schmidt, Jacob Serafini, Sammy Benbow, Tyler Gannon, Sam Helms, Dominic Monozon, Brian Tatman, Michael Contreras, Brett Sterrer, Stephen Baker and Jordan Gonzalez were announced along with up to two members of their family prior to scheduled start time.
Following a rain delay of two hours and five minutes, Pioneers starter Brett Pierson struck out four over six innings in a 6-3 loss to the Loggers. In the finale, which started just after 5 p.m., Zack Kon and Benbow had two RBI apiece in an 8-4 defeat.

Key Moments | Game 1
The Pioneers (7-21, 7-21 NWC) stranded five runners in the first three innings, including three in the second. With two outs, Helms, who finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and run scored, singled, Schmidt was hit by a pitch and Justin Bailey singled to load the bases. The inning ended on a Pios groundout.
Meanwhile, the Loggers scored three times in the first three innings, all from two home runs. Otherwise, Pierson had a pretty good start over six innings. Baker finished the last three innings with two runs allowed on four hits with two strikeouts.
Thomson matched his season high for hits and went 3 for 4 with one walk. Contreras, Benbow and Kon had five at-bats apiece, as the Pios left 10 runners on base. Bailey finished 3 for 4, a new career high for hits.
Key Moments | Game 2
After Puget Sound (13-15, 9-13 NWC) built a 7-1 lead, a three-run fifth inning wasn't enough to spark a full comeback for the Pios.
A one-out single from Bailey was followed by Dylan Moore's double. Thomson was hit by a pitch, which tied the Lewis & Clark school record for the most with 16, and the bases were loaded. After the Loggers made a pitching change, Benbow brought two in on a single to right, and Kon added a sacrifice fly. Luke Bass reached on an error in the sixth, and Benbow doubled in the seventh, for the Pios only other base runners in the game.
Tyler Shimabukuro started for Lewis & Clark, allowed six hits and five runs over 2 1/3 innings, while Anthony Clerici threw the most at 2 2/3 innings. Clerici allowed five hits and two runs with one strikeout. Moore threw the last two and gave up one run on three hits.
Benbow finished 3 for 3 with two RBI. Kon brought in two runs as well without a hit, as both came in on sacrifice flies. Moore went 2 for 4.
