Game 1 | Key Moments
Monozon allowed two hits through the first five innings including three 1-2-3 innings. Meanwhile, the Pioneers took an 9-0 lead with Gannon leading the way. Zack Kon had a two-RBI double in the Pios four-run second inning. Jacob Serafini brought in one on a single in the second as well.
Sammy Benbow hit a sacrifice fly in the third. Overall, eight Pios had a hit in the opener.
"My favorite thing about the game was watching the adjustments out hitters made from last weekend," Pios head coach Matt Kosderka said. "We had a bunch of quality at bats, up and down the lineup, led by a big game for Tyler.
"Dom gave us a great outing. When he's on his game, he's as tough as anyone, and he came up huge for us today."
Jack Thomson had the other multi-hit game for the Pios, going 2 for 4 with a walk and two runs scored. Cristian Panaro and Tal Jones threw an inning of relief apiece with Jones retiring all three batters he faced.
Game 2 | Key Moments
A five-run third inning complimented Ferruggia's one-hit performance in the seven-inning late game. Gannon's two-RBI double followed a run scored by Michael Contreras on a passed ball for the first three runs of the inning. Benbow hit a two-RBI homer, his first of the season and the fourth of his career, to move the Pios ahead by five.
Ferruggia had the best start of his career. He retired eight-in-a-row early in the game, while the Pioneers defense stepped up in the later innings.
"Noah was really solid on the mound," Kosderka said. "He never panicked, made quality pitch after quality pitch, and really was instrumental in helping us sweep the day.
"While we were quite as good on offense, we still did some good things. It was great to see Benbow put some good swings together and a bunch of guys contributed."
Benbow had the Pios only multi-hit performance in the closing game (2 for 4, 2 RBI, 1 R). Thomson, Gannon and Contreras doubled in the finale.
"After a tough weekend last week, it was great to see our guys respond so well," Kosderka said. "It says a lot about where this program has gotten to. My first few years, we wouldn't have answered back quite as well, so love seeing the progress."
