NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers were defeated in the Northwest Conference opener on Saturday, 9-0, by the George Fox Bruins at the Multi-Purpose Facility. George Fox entered ranked No. 29 in the nation, while the Pios were picked third in the NWC preseason coaches poll.
Ramez Attia and Shane Lynette had the best doubles match, an 8-5 defeat in No. 1 position. Will McDermott lost his opening set narrowly in a 7-5, 6-3 loss at No. 4 in singles.

Key Moments
Attia and Lynette were within 6-5 of the No. 8-ranked combo of Alex Namba and Will Leach, but fell by three. Riley Vickers and Brendan Adams were downed in third position by Camden Camacho and Thierry Van Os, 8-3.
With the doubles points lost, McDermott battled Namba to a 5-4 deficit before dropping the opener 7-5. No other Pios picked up more than a pair of games among the top four singles matches.
Vickers lost 6-2, 6-4 to Camacho at No. 5, while Kristian Peev grabbed the first set of his No. 6 match with Van Os. Peev ultimately lost 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7).
