Key Moments
The Pios had a baserunner on in four of the first five innings. Thomson's two-out double was the first hit of the game, followed by Katona's single in the second. Michael Contreras reached on the first of two Pacific errors, and Thomson was hit by a pitch to reach in the third. Blake Tellinghusen led the fifth off and was hit as well. The Pios had two on when Justin Bailey reached on an error. Back-to-back groundouts stranded them.
"You have to give the Pacific pitching staff a lot of credit for executing, but we really didn't compete at the plate for most of the day," Pios head coach Matt Kosderka said. "It was tough to have scoring chances and come up empty in game one. Dom continues to be an absolute warrior on the mound, and we haven't done anything to support him this year."
Lewis & Clark turned two inning-ending double plays in the first four innings. In the fifth, Brad Altomare hit an RBI single. In the eighth, Ryan Krout's RBI double added the second Boxers run.
Kevin Kane pitched the final two innings, struck out two and allowed the second Pacific run.
