PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers dropped their home opener against NCAA Division I opponent Portland State 7-0 on Saturday at the L&C Tennis Dome. Riley Vickers and Kristian Peev were winners in No. 3 doubles, but the visiting Vikings won the doubles point with wins in the top pairings. NCAA Div. I scoring rules were in effect with the doubles majority taking a single point.
Ramez Attia won the first set in No. 1 singles against Tommy Edwards, while Peev took the middle set against Majeed Bukhari in fifth position.
The Pios (2-3) play two exhibitions between the match with Portland State and the Northwest Conference opener on Mar. 7.

Key Moments
Vickers and Peev won 6-3 over Otto Holtari and Nikola Dimitrijevic in the third doubles match. Lewis & Clark nearly took the point as Ryan Hayes and Shane Lynette were within two in the No. 2 doubles pairing. Ultimately, Matteo Fortini and Bukhari won 7-5.
Attia won the first set against Edwards before falling in the final two, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, in the top singles pairing. Attia's match was one of the longest from the four singles starts. The final set was 3-3 at one point.
After dropping the first set, 6-1, Vickers worked his No. 4 singles match to a 7-5 set in the second to nearly force a third against Sam Roberts. Peev evened his No. 5 match with Bukhari and was squeezed in the third to lose 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.
