FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers lost 9-0 to the Pacific Boxers in their first spring match of the 2020 season on Saturday. The dual at Holce Tennis Courts did not count in the Northwest Conference standings.
Brendan Adams forced a third set in the No. 2 singles match-up, the only Pioneers singles entrant to do so. Competing as a duo for the first time, Ryan Hayes and Ramez Attia had the closest margin in doubles. The pair lost the No. 3 pairing 8-6.
Hayes nearly won his first singles set in sixth position.

Key Moments
Competing against Rayden Murata, Adams bounced back from a game-one sweep to win the second set. In the third, Murata wrapped up a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 win.
Hayes stayed right along Joey Balleweg in the opening set of the No. 6 match-up, but was defeated 7-5, 6-2.
Debuting in a higher spot than any singles match he played all of last year, Will McDermott was consistent in his 6-3, 6-3 loss to Sean Murphy in the No. 3 singles match. McDermott went 8-6 last season as the team's No. 4.
Pacific (1-4) opened the dual with a 3-0 lead following doubles. The top matches were both 8-3 results with Reyn Miyagawa and Murata beating Adams and McDermott at No. 1, while Quentin Gonzalez and Murphy defeated Riley Vickers and Kristian Peev.
