Pioneers defeat the Whittier Poets

LA VERNE, Calif. -- The Pioneers beat the Whittier Poets with a final score of 14-7. The Pioneers had three homeruns, and a total of 12 RBIs in the game. This was one of the best performances behind the plate for the season thus far. Only seven of the Pioneers struck out behind the plate, and they only left five runners stranded on base. 

The Pioneers pitching only allowed one homerun, and they struck out three Whittier batters. The Pioneers had a total of 12 hits with 14 runs for the game which was one of the best performances this season. Matt Donovan and Tyler Gannon lead the Pioneers with three RBIs a piece.

Key Moments

In the top of the third inning, the Pioneers started off with Donovan being walked, and Jacob Serafini bunted to be thrown out to allow Donovan to advance to third base. Cooper Larson was then up next, and although he struck out swinging he advanced to first on an error by the catcher. Donovan took advantage of this error to score an unearned run. Jack Thomson singled to center field to allow Larson to come home to score another run in the inning. After Thomson stole second base, Zack Kon hit a two RBI homerun to bring in both himself and Thomson. The Pioneers got their third out right after to end the inning with a score of 5-2. 

In the top of the seventh inning, the Pioneers took full advantage of the Whitter pitchers struggling, and had one of their best innings behind the plate. Their first two batters got on base, and then Thomson got on base by an error to allow Ryan Ericksen to score. Tyler Gannon had quite a performance with a three RBI double which allowed Cameron Paton, Kon, and Thomson to score. Lastly, Donovan had a single to left field that allowed Gannon to come home to score again.
