Nearly all Pios enter game in 7-0 win

Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers used 26 different student-athletes in Tuesday's 7-0 win over the Pacific Boxers at Huston Sports Complex. The non-Northwest Conference victory gives the Pios back-to-back wins for the first time since beating Linfield on Mar. 17 in both games of that series opener.

Five different Pioneers had at least one RBI including Matt Donovan, who went 3 for 4 from the plate with a pair of RBI and runs scored. Donovan has multiple hits in 12 different games this season, tied with Sean Shepherd for the team high, and had three hits or more for a fifth time this year. He extended his on-base streak to six. David Schmidt also had a pair of RBI.

"Good win for our guys today," said Lewis & Clark head coach Matt Kosderka. "All our pitchers battled and made the pitches we needed to, and we took advantage of their mistakes to extend a lead."

Pacific committed two errors and was led by Aaron Alexander at the plate.

The Pioneers used seven different pitchers, the second of which was Connor Eggleston (1-2) who earned the win. Starter Zach Merzlak and Robert Reaser, who followed Eggleston, pitched the longest of any Pioneers hurler at two innings apiece. Reaser had a pair of strikeouts as did Nat Richman, who preceded Austin Conniff, the Pios' final pitcher of the game. Jeramy Albert and Max Haddad both pitched an inning with Haddad allowing no hits.

Lewis & Clark scored all of its runs in the first and third innings. In the bottom of the first, the Pios loaded the bases with one out as Pacific starter Trevor Quinn (1-3) walked three straight batters following singles by Donovan and Shepherd. Donovan and Schmidt hit a two-RBI double and single, respectively, after Kevin Jacobs reached on an error, Cole Petters walked and Jacob Serafini singled. Cooper Larson had the other Pioneers hit in the game, while Max Gordon, Cameron Paton and Ryan Ericksen also drew walks.

Pacific (13-18, 8-13 NWC) stranded two runners in three separate innings. Lewis & Clark turned three double plays, a season high.

"We are hoping to continue to build momentum into the final two weekends," said Kosderka, whose team plays at Whitman this weekend before hosting Willamette in the regular-season finale.

Lewis & Clark (8-24, 4-14 NWC) is five games out of a Northwest Conference postseason tournament spot with six conference games left.
