PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers defeated Pacific Lutheran 9-0 and are on a hot streak increasing their overall record to 5-0. This great start to their season this year is striving to match their 2015-16 season start when they won nine straight before losing to a non-conference opponent.
Lewis & Clark took an early 3-0 lead in the doubles matches giving them another solid start going into their singles matches. Partners Madelyn Landerfelt and Natalie Kelly defeated their Opponent 8-4 followed by Kacey Incerpi and Christine Eliazo who also won 8-4. Chloe Sermet and Riley Hanks defeated their opponents with scores of 8-3.
Landerfelt was the first to defeat her opponent in the singles matches winning (6-2, 6-2) followed by Tash Hood, who just came back from a shoulder injury, defeating her opponent (6-1, 6-2). Eliazo won in two sets with scores of (6-1, 6-3) and Kelly also won in two sets (6-1, 6-2). In the final two singles matches Hanks defeated her opponent (7-6, 6-0) and Adrienne Fox defeated her opponent (6-4, 6-1).
"It feels good and it's looking good…" said Eliazo "It's a good start to a new season and I hope that we will continue this winning streak. When we start play harder teams hopefully we can bring this winning streak with us to boost our morale and give our team confidence."
The Pioneers will be travelling to Washington this upcoming weekend to play against Whitworth and Whitman. They will play Whitworth on Saturday, March 10 at 10 a.m. and Whitman the following Sunday, March 11 at 9 a.m.
