SALEM, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers took all nine matches from the Willamette Bearcats for the second time this spring in a 9-0 win at the Willamette Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
Josie Legarza and Christine Eliazo won the top doubles match, 8-4, over Mikaila Smith and Alexis Gjurasic in the tightest of the three to open to a 3-0 lead in the dual. Eliazo had the longest singles match, beating Smith 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 at No. 1. It was her first match ever in the top singles spot.
"Great team win today," said Lewis & Clark head coach Patrick Dreves. "Our younger players really stepped up today and gave us a good result heading into the tough stretch over spring break."
The Pioneers play four matches in Ohio starting on Mar. 26. All of the teams Lewis & Clark will face are ranked.
In the No. 3 singles spot, Glenna Gee-Taylor defeated Hannah Andres, 6-1, 6-3, to improve to 3-3 overall this season and 2-1 in NWC matches. Two spots down, Adrienne Fox improved to 2-0 in the NWC with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Rachel Kong. Tash Hood, Chloe Sermet and Carla Thomas also won singles matches.
Sermet and Fox combined to win 8-3 over Hannah Andres and Noemi Cruz-Cruz in No. 3 doubles, while Hood and Thomas were winners at No. 2, 8-1, over Mina Mizutani and Kong.
Lewis & Clark improved to 7-2 on the year and will compete in its first non-conference duals of the year starting Mar. 26 against Case Western Reserve in a match at Kenyon College.
