TUSCON, Ariz. -- Lewis & Clark started day two of the Tuscon Invitational by grabbing the first two runs of the game, but that an a three RBI double in the seventh wasn't enough to elevate the Pioneers to a win against the Macalaster Scots, losing 10-8. Game two also didn't go as planned, when the Pios were only able to score one, while letting 11 Scots cross home base. 

Game 1

The Pioneers pulled ahead in the first inning off the back of a pair of RBI singles by Tommy Massari and Nick Lockwood. A Massari single to left field allowed Conner Sick to score the first run of the game, while Lockwood's single to left field gave Sean Shepherd time to make it home, bringing the score to 2-0.

The Pioneers didn't hold the lead for long, as Macalester scored three in the second inning when a double down the left field line allowed two runners to score, and an RBI single brought the total to three.

Akira Abderahman had a two RBI single of his own in the second, allowing the Pioneers a 4-3 lead. However, Lewis & Clark didn't hold the lead for long, letting four cross home in the third, and another two in the sixth.

Down 10-4 going into the seventh inning, the Pios needed something big to come back. And they got it, when a three RBI double by Kellen Ochi nearly brought Lewis & Clark within two to end the seventh. Both teams were unable to score in the last two innings, leaving the Pioneers behind, 10-8.

Game 2

Shepherd led the Pioneers with a .667 batting average, going 3-2 with one RBI. His was the only RBI of the game, as the Pioneers were only able to cross home once.

Matthew Plisko picked up the win for the Scots, only letting four hits against, while getting four strikeouts. Drake Gilliland pitched for the Pios, allowing seven hits and striking out six.

Continuing in the Tuscon Invitational, the Pioneers take on Augsburg Sunday at 9 a.m and 11:30 a.m.
