Undefeated Pios keep grabbing wins

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Coming out of the weekend with a pair of wins, Lewis & Clark holds on to its number one stop in the Northwest Conference, after defeating the George Fox Bruins, 8-1. The Pioneers are currently undefeated in the NWC, witha 5-0 record. 

All three of the doubles matches were withing three games, with the closest and longest being the No. 3 spot. Holding down court three, Jackson Powell and Ben DeLuca won a 9-7 standoff after coming back from being down 6-5. Tying up the score to 7-7, the pair took two straight games to grab the win. 

At No. 1 doubles, Brenden Barrows and Gordon Barrows defeated the #17 pair of Watanabe and Namba. They were previously undefeated in the NWC, with the Barrows' handing them their first loss of the season, 8-6. In another tight match, No. 2 Raed Attia and Michael Brewer finished first, and grabbed the largest doubles margin of the day, winning 8-5. 

In singles, Attia took on #18 Spencer Watanabe, giving up six games in the first set, before coming back form a four game deficit in the second set to take it 7-5. Although the Pioneershad already pulled in 5 team points and the No. 1 match could have played a tie breaker, both teams decided to take the match to a third set. Attia dropped the third and final set 6-2. 

The first to finish his match, Powell handily swept his Bruin opponent in straight sets. G. Barrows won his match 6-2, 6-2. His opponent was undefeated in the NWC, giving Barrows his second win of the day against an undefeated opponent. 

Next to finish was B. Barrows, giving the Pios their second 6-0, 6-0 sweep. No. 2 and No. 3, Brewer and DeLuca, both took their matches long. DeLuca won his first 6-4, and the second 6-1. Brewer went to three sets, after losing the first, he won the second after a 7-4 tie breaker. He took the third set 6-1, giving the Pios their eight point. 

The Pioneers play Linfield at home on Saturday at 11 a.m.
