TACOMA, Wash. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers took five of their six singles matches, including a come-from-behind, three-set victory by Kacey Incerpi in the No. 2 slot, to beat Pacific Lutheran 6-3 at Sprinker Recreation Center on Saturday.
Incerpi bounced back from a 4-6 defeat in the opener to beat Samantha Lund in the final two sets, 6-0, 7-5. The match was Incerpi's highest position singles match of the season, and the win improved her record to 2-3.
Earlier in the day, Incerpi paired with Aurora Garrison for the first time this season, winning the Pios' only double match, 8-0, over Megan Beyers and Ingrid Ericksen.
The other two doubles matches went against the Pioneers, including the No. 1 pair of Christine Eliazo and Claudia Lew (2-3). The No. 13-ranked team nationally lost to Caroline Dreher and Lund 8-5. Playing their first top three match this spring, Vika O'Brien and Carla Thomas (1-0, Thomas pictured right) lost 8-6 to Emily Bower and Emily Beemsterboer.
O'Brien (2-0) bounced back in singles, winning her second in a row, 6-0, 6-1, over Beemsterboer in the No. 5 position. Thomas (0-1) wasn't as fortunate, losing 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) to Lilly Le.
Much like O'Brien, Lew and Eliazo recovered from the doubles loss, each winning their singles match in straight sets. Lew (4-0) took the No. 4 match over Bower 6-2, 6-1, with Eliazo (5-0) defeating Beyers 6-0, 6-2.
Garrison won her singles match as well, 6-2, 6-3, over Dreher.
With the win, Lewis & Clark improves to 5-0 in the spring, including wins over three top 30 teams. The Pios will try to sweep the weekend at Puget Sound on Sunday at 11 a.m.
