PORTLAND, Ore. -- Sweeping the doubles matches for this first time in Northwest Conference play, the No. 13, regionally-ranked Lewis & Clark Pioneers defeated Pacific Lutheran 9-0 at the L&C Tennis Dome on Saturday afternoon.
The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pairs for the Pios went on to 8-1 victories to start the session. Gordon and Brenden Barrows (2-2) won the second tier match-up against DJ Pekoc and Jeremy Marsh, while Pim Trouerbach and Keane Hindle (1-1) defeated Chan Thourk and Justin deMattos in the third spot.
Raed Attia and Kevin Ross (2-1) resumed as Lewis & Clark's top doubles pair after Ross had missed some time because of an injury. The duo won 8-3 over James Okubo and Noel Oteng-Mensah.
Attia and Brenden Barrows (pictured below right) bookended perfect singles matches for the Pios, as no singles competitor dropped a set for Lewis & Clark. Attia (1-3) won the No. 1 match-up with Okubo 6-0, 6-0, while Brenden Barrows (2-2) used the same score to down Thourk in the No. 6 pairing.
Ross (1-1) had a shutout set in his 6-0, 6-3 win over Oteng-Mensah at the No. 3 position. Gordon Barrows (2-2) took the second spot 6-1, 6-3 from Marsh, while Daniel Hahm (2-2) was victorious 6-3, 6-1 against deMattos in the fourth pairing.
At one point, the top four Lewis & Clark singles players led their respective matches by a combined 17-2 margin.
Harrison Collins (3-1) rounded out the sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Pekoc in the No. 5 position.
Lewis & Clark resumes play on Sunday when the Pioneers host Puget Sound at 10 a.m.
