#36 Women's Tennis Defeats #35 Linfield 8-1

By Jimmy Chau
Assistant Tennis Coach

PORTLAND, Ore. - In a dual match that pitted two of the Northwest Conference's nationally ranked teams, Lewis & Clark came out on top 8-1.  Fans from both sides packed the L&C Tennis Dome to witness one of the most electric matches of the season.

The Wildcats, ranked #35 in the country and the Pioneers right behind them at #36 gave the fans a lot to cheer for.

Numbers one and three doubles were tight early as both sides wouldn't give an inch.  The story was a little different at number two where the team of Summer Garrison and Claudia Lew jumped out to a 4-1 lead as everyone else was on serve.  The duo from NorCal would not let up as they would cruise to an 8-2 victory to get the Pios on the board first.  The other two matches would stay close through out as all four teams went back and forth in a great duel.  It was the Pioneers through who would come up big in the clutch as Kacey Incerpi and Christine Eliazo would snap up the next crucial doubles point with an 8-4 tally.  Aurora Garrison and Wiktoria Plawska would soon follow with a tough 8-5 win against the gritty number three team from Linfield.

Up 3-0, things wouldn't get any easier.  The final score was not evident of how tough this team match ended up.  Aurora was able to play steady as she always does and against a hobbling Kopecka from Linfield, she rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory to put the Pios up 4-0.  Things would get a lot tougher from there as Linfield simply would not go away.  Ella Riddle lead the charge and was phenomenal in her match against the younger Garrison.  Summer couldn't find the answer as Riddle seemed to be on a mission in her return to the LC Tennis dome where she spent some of her junior career training.  Riddle rolled to a 6-1, 6-3 victory against the upstart freshman.  Claudia was in the midst of a dog fight at number four as Wiktoria Plawska finally put away a 6-3, 6-2 over an always tough Kaila Nip to secure the mini upset for the Pios.  With the dual match in hand, Claudia toughed it out in a match breaker with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 win over Marisa Doveri.  Kacey Incerpi and Glenna Gee-Taylor rounded out the scoring with 6-3, 6-3, and 6-4, 6-0 wins respectively.

The Pios head to Salem next to face the Willamette Bearcats at 11:00am at the Courthouse.
