Box Score SALEM, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark men's basketball team dominated nearly every aspect of its 67-39 Northwest Conference at Willamette on Tuesday night.
The Pioneers are now 13-9 on the season and in sole possession of third place in the Northwest Conference with an 8-5 record. With just three regular season games left the Bearcats fall to 8-14 overall and 6-7 in the NWC.
Junior Carl Appleton finished the night with the games only double-double, netting 13 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Serg Ovchinnikov was the only other player in the game to finish in double-figures scoring with a game-high 15 points. The junior guard ended the night just one rebound shy of a double-double, collecting all nine of his boards on the defensive end. He also finished with an assist, steal and block. Bradley Carter scored nine points for the Pios, while Jonathan Boddie had eight.
Brandon Luedtke and Bridger Harlington led the Bearcats with eight points each, while Luedtke earned a game-high 14 boards.
The Bearcats struck first, owning a 4-0 advantage at the 18:33 mark after a jumper by Harlington and a layup by Luedtke. After that it took almost three minutes for either team to score, however this time it was the Pioneers who got on the board with back-to-back made free-throws by Appleton. Jason Luhnow hit a three pointer moments later to hand the Pioneers the lead with a 5-4 advantage. The lead would stick as the Pios went onto score 11 more points before Willamette put the ball through the net again.
Free-throws by Nico Troplent with 9:43 to play cut the Bearcat deficit to 16-6. The Pioneers closed out the period on a 21-9 run, earning them a 37-15 advantage heading into the locker room.
The Pioneers were never in danger of losing the lead in the second period, keeping the Bearcats in a double-digit deficit throughout the remainder of the game. Lewis & Clark earned it's largest lead of the contest, 63-33, with 3:45 to go with consecutive made free-throws by Boddie. The Pios would score just four more points after the Boddie baskets, while the Bearcats netted six more.
The Pioneers return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. when they host Puget Sound.
