TACOMA, Wash. - Sophomore Claudia Lew helped the Lewis & Clark women's tennis team earn both of its points on Saturday night in the Pioneers 7-2 loss at Pacific Lutheran.
The Pioneers fall to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in the NWC with the loss, while the Lutes improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in conference.
Lew's first point came with Makena McCluskey as the pair took down Leah Newell and Samantha Lund 8-0 from the No. 1 doubles position. Olivia Sweetman and Gillian Lowe nearly pulled out another point for the Pioneers in the No. 2 spot, forcing a tie-breaker with Allison McClure and Mariah Siemon. The duo was unable to come out on top, falling to the Lutes 9-8 (8-6). Allison Schneider and Theresa Grigsby also put in a strong performance as the No. 3, but fell 8-6 to their counterparts.
Lew moved onto singles where she defeated Newell 6-2 in both sets as the Pios No. 1. Sweetman and Lund battled things out at the No. 2 with Lund pulling out the 7-6 (6-4), 6-1 win. Lowe fell 6-0 in both of her sets as the No. 3, McCluskey lost 6-2, 6-3 (No. 4), Schneider fell 6-2, 6-1 (No. 5) and Paloma Vizcano dropped her sets 6-2 (No. 6).
Lewis & Clark returns to the court on Saturday, March 1 at home against Whitworth with a 10 a.m. start.
