Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - Five members of the Lewis & Clark men's basketball team finished in double-figures in scoring in the Pioneers 100-94 double overtime loss to Concordia on Saturday night.
The Pioneers were paced by 18 points from Jason Luhnow, who finished 3-of-4 from the free-throw line and 3-of-7 from three point range. Both Serg Ovchinnikov and Carl Appleton netted 16 points for the Pioneers, while Cannen Roberson knocked down 15.
Bradley Carter finished the night with the games only double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds. Roberson collected six boards and three steals for the Pioneers, while Luhnow pulled down six rebounds and dished out six assists.
Anthony Holton scored a game-high 21 points for the Cavaliers, while teammate Tyler Velasquez concluded the night with 20 points.
Lewis & Clark opened with a 7-2 lead with four points from Carter over the first four and a half minutes of action. The Cavaliers pulled ahead on a dunk by Thomas Pierce with 14:19 to go, making it a 10-9 game. Concordia continued to pile it on over the next four minutes, going on a 9-0 run to take their largest lead of the contest.
The Pioneers steadily fought their way back into the contest going on a 10-0 run of their own to tie the game at 19-19 with 9:21 remaining in the first half. The two sides traded baskets and possession of the lead over the rest of the half with the Cavaliers taking a 43-41 lead into the locker room.
Anthony Holton extended the Cavs lead at the start of the second half, but the Pioneers would find a way to once again tie the game. After tying the game at 55 all with 14:14 on the clock, the two sides would go on to once again trade baskets, tying the game up seven more times. The seventh tie would come at the very end of the half with an and one jumper from Pierce, cutting the Pioneer lead from three to nothing.
The first overtime would see just four points from each side with Luhnow hitting a jumper with 19 seconds left to send the game into a second overtime period.
The Pioneers took a 94-92 advantage in the second overtime period on a Roberson three with 2:57 to go. That would be the last basket the Pioneers would make as the Cavaliers closed out the period on an 8-0 run for the win.
The Pioneers return to the court on Friday, Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. in the David Wells Classic Tournament where they'll take on Claremont-M-S in their first game.
