Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark men's basketball team ended opening weekend undefeated with a 77-74 win over Evergreen on Sunday night in the final game of the Bon Appeitt NWC Tipoff Classic.

Jason Luhnow ended the night two rebounds away from his first double-double of the season, knocking down a team-high 14 points, while collecting eight boards. The Pioneers had four othere players finish in double-figures in scoring, with both Bradley Carter and Cannen Roberson netting 13 points, while Carl Appleton came off the bench to score 11 and Serg Ovchinnikov scored 10.

Roberson collected a game-high nine rebounds, while Appleton joined Luhnow with eight boards. Carter picked up two blocks, while Luhnow finished with a block and a steal on the defensive side of the ball.

Kortney Darby led all players with 23 points for the Geoducks, while teammate Jordan Dam finished with 20.

After jumping out to an early 5-0 lead, the Pioneers managed to keep the Geoducks at a safe distance until the 10:53 mark. David Weatherspoon drained a jumper for the Geoducks that tied the contest at 22-22, before another Weatherspoon jumper with 7:26 left earned Evergreen their first lead of the game.

Carter took the lead back for good for the Pioneers two minutes later with a put back jumper. Lewis & Clark increased its lead lead to 34-27 courtesy of six unanswered points with 3:49 left until the half. Evergreen tacked on four more points before the intermission, but not before the Pioneers added five more of their own for a 39-32 advantage.

The Pioneers started the second half with a fast paced offensive presence, racking up their largest lead of the game with 13:08 remaining. Trailing 56-43, Evergreen managed to find enough energy to rally back and cut the Pioneer advantage to just two points with 13 seconds on the clock. A foul by Alix Hernandez sent Cory Coombe to the free-throw line where the sophomore missed his first shot before hitting his second for a 77-74 Pioneer lead. After a quick L&C timeout, the Geoducks threw up a desperation shot with three seconds left but could not connect.

The Pioneers return to action on Friday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. at Warner Pacific.
