Baseball Loses to Whitworth 9-1

PORTLAND, Ore. - ­­The Lewis & Clark baseball team fell to the Whitworth Pirates 9-1 in game one of the three game Northwest Conference series on Friday afternoon.

Whitworth jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning with a three run homerun from Tyler Pfeffer. The Pirates opened the game up even more in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on five hits and a Pioneer error.

Pfeffer started the scoring with another three run homerun. A single through the left side from Kevin Valerio allowed the final two Pirate runs of the inning to score.

Whitworth continued to go yard on Lewis & Clark, plating another run with a solo homerun from Paul Miller in the seventh.

Lewis & Clark finally plated a run of its own in the eighth inning with an RBI single from freshman Eric Hyun. The single allowed sophomore Corey Davis to score after the Pioneer first baseman led off the inning with a double to right field.

The two sides return to action on Saturday, April 7 at 12 p.m. for game two. Game three will begin around 3 p.m.
