WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Lewis & Clark baseball team could not maintain its lead in game two of its three game series against Whitman, falling 7-5. The Missionaries then picked up a strong 11-2 win over the Pioneers in the third contest.

Game two was suspended in the fourth inning on Saturday due to rain with the Pioneers leading 4-2. The game was promptly picked up on Sunday afternoon in the top of the fifth inning with the Pioneers being retired in order.

The Missionaries then found a way to score three runs in the bottom of the fifth to jump ahead of the Pios 5-4. The Pioneers tied up the contest at 5-5 in the seventh inning with an RBI single from Michael Ball. Ball's single allowed junior Geoff Wertz to score after leading off the inning with a double to right center.

The Pio lead was short lived with the Missionaries plating what proved to be the game winning runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The third game started with the Missionaries taking a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning. Kris Brown tied things up for the Pioneers in the top of the third inning with an RBI single to left field that allowed Nick Lavin to score.

Whitman plated three runs in the bottom of the inning to recapture the lead before going on to score four more runs in the sixth.

After leading off the eighth inning with a single to right field, Ball came around to score moments later on a double-play that allowed him to come home.

Whitman tacked on three more runs in its half of the eighth, picking up the 11-2 win.

Lewis & Clark returns to action on Saturday, April 6 at noon hosting the Whitworth Pirates.
