PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark baseball team scored two runs in the eighth inning to come from behind to defeat Willamette 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in game three of the Northwest Conference series.
Senior Michael Ball picked up his second complete game victory of the season, while scoring two of the Pioneers three runs. Freshman Andrew Traver finished the game 2-for-3 from the plate with an RBI.
Willamette took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second with some assistance from a Pioneer error. The Bearcats quickly made it 2-0 in the next inning with an RBI single from Sky Kelly that allowed Tyson Giza to score from second.
The Pioneers cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the six with Ball coming around to score on a Corey Davis fielders choice.
Still trailing by one in the eighth, the Pioneers got things going with the Bearcat pitcher hititng Ball to start the inning. Nick Lavin moved Ball to third with a hard hit double down the right line. With runners in scoring position, Traver singled to left center allowing Ball to easily make his way home.
Mike Kinkenon knocked in the Pioneers next run with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Lavin from third. Lewis & Clark then retired all three of Willamette's batters in the top of the ninth to complete the victory.
The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday, March 27 when they take on Oberlin in Phoenix, Ariz.
