Baseball Concludes Game Two Before Falling in Game Three to Pacific

Game Two (called on Saturday due to rain)

Game Three

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark baseball team concluded game two of its three game series on Sunday morning, falling to Pacific University 6-0. The Pioneers were just as unlucky in game three, falling to the Boxers 2-0.

After a tough first game on Saturday, the Pioneers quickly fell behind in game two with the Boxers scoring three runs in the top of the first. The Boxers tacked on three more runs through the next six innings before the game was called due to bad weather.

The game was picked up Sunday morning with neither team plating a run, preserving the 6-0 win for the Boxers.

Pacific got on the board first in game three, scoring a run in the first inning after sending its lead-off batter around the bases.

The Pioneer offense didn't get going until the sixth inning when freshman Eric Hyun led off the inning with a single to the shortstop for the teams third hit of the game. Hyun's time on base was short lived as the next Pio batter hit into a double play. With two outs, senior Michael Ball, who started the game on the mound for L&C, singled to once again give the team a base runner. A Boxer error allowed Nick Lavin to reach base and move Ball to second. That would be as far as either runner would get with the Boxers retiring Lavin at second on the next at bat.

Lewis & Clark had another chance to score runs in the eighth inning, collecting two hits and stranding two runners on base.

Pacific scored its second run of the game in the eighth with its lead-off batter once again making his way around the bases.

Parker Dane ended the game 3-for-4 from the plate, while Ball finished 2-for-4. Ball also collected the lose for the Pios, pitching the complete game.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, March 24 at 12 p.m. when they host Willamette in Northwest Conference action.
