PARKLAND, Wash. - Junior James Hollins scored a team-high 18 points for the Lewis & Clark men's basketball team against the Pacific Lutheran Lutes on Friday night in the teams 69-54 Northwest Conference loss.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 7-7 on the season and 2-3 in conference action. The Lutes improve to 7-8 overall and 4-2 in the NWC.
Hollins also collected a team-high five rebounds and two steals to go with his 18 points. Hollins' 18 points represents the 12th time this season that the Arizona native has scored in double-digits. Senior Marcus Wells and junior Ross Erickson each scored seven points in the Pioneers efforts.
James Conti finished the night with a game-high 20 points and seven boards. Cameron Schilling also finished in double-digits in scoring with 13 points.
Erickson scored the games first basket with a very quick layup under the hoop. The Lutes countered with a Conti jumper, flowed by a layup to capture a 4-2 lead. Despite the Pioneers best efforts, the Lutes would never trail again.
Facing a 15-4 deficit, the Pioneers went on a solid 8-2 run to cut the score to 17-12 with 8:41 left in the half. Once again the Lutes countered increasing their lead to 31-19 with a little over a minute to play. The Pioneers knocked down three more points before the end of the half to enter the locker room down 31-22.
Senior PJ Taylor pulled the Pioneers within five points in the opening minutes of the second half with a three pointer. Once again the Lutes had an answer. Pacific Lutheran surged ahead by double-digits again and would never allow the Pios to get any closer.
The Pioneers return home for their next contest, hosting Willamette on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 8 p.m.
