Game Two
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark baseball team dropped its first two games of its Northwest Conference series against the Linfield Wildcats on Saturday afternoon at the Huston Sports Complex. The Wildcats picked up a 8-3 win in the first game of the series, before collecting a 5-1 victory in game two.
The wins help the Wildcats remain in first place in the NWC with a 20-6 overall record and 14-3 conference standing. The Pioneers slip to 4-25 on the season and 2-15 in conference play.
Linfield stuck first blood, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning on a two-run RBI double from Eric Evenson. The Wildcats tacked on another run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly from Dustin Smith.
The Pioneers earned a run back in the bottom half of the fourth with Eliot Smith crossing the plate.
The Wildcats would go onto score five more runs before the Pioneers could plate another in the bottom of the eighth. Down 8-1 in the eighth, Tucker Laurence sent the ball into left center, bringing in junior Michael Ball from first. The Pioneers managed another run in the ninth inning with a solo homerun from Parker Dane, but it would not be enough for the victory.
Two runs in the first inning by the Wildcats put the Pioneers in a quick hole in game two. The Pioneers pulled within a run in the fourth inning when Sam Holman hit the ball into center field, allowing Laurence to come around and score.
Linfield tacked on two more runs in the top of the next inning on another two-run homerun from D. Smith. The Wildcats would plate their final run of the contest in the seventh inning when D. Smith came around to score on a Pioneer error.
