PORTLAND, Ore. - Lewis & Clark baseball squared off against Willamette University on Saturday hoping to spoil the Bearcats' opening weekend of conference play. The Pioneers struggled to put enough runs across the plate however, losing both games by scores of 11-1 and 7-2.
In the first game the Pioneers could not capitalize on many scoring chances scoring only one run off of the bearcat pitching. Willamette, however, came out swinging and took the victory 11-1. Starting pitcher Brandon Simon recorded the win while Eliot Smith received the loss.
In the second game, both teams scored early but Willamette came up with a five run inning that would allow them to hold on for a 7-2 victory. Blake Paisley picked up the win in game two and Will King recorded the loss.
The Bearcats were led by T.C Lee and Sky Kelley with Lee hitting two home runs while driving in four runs on the day. Kelley had five hits on the day including one home run and three RBIs. The Pioneers were led by Tucker Laurence, Roland Greene and Geoff Wertz. Laurence and Greene each had two hits in game one with Laurence batting in the only run of the game for the Pios. Wertz went 1-3 with a walk and an RBI in game two.
The two teams finish their weekend series Sunday with a start time of 1pm.
