Baseball Can't Overcome Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. – In a rainy contest, the Lewis & Clark baseball team was only able to complete one game against Puget Sound on Saturday afternoon, falling 6-2 in a Northwest Conference match-up.

The Pioneers fall to 3-15 on the season and 2-11 in conference action. The Loggers improve to 8-8 overall and 6-1 in the NWC.

The Pioneers jumped out to an early lead, scoring a run in the first inning of action. Junior Parker Dane would come around to score the run for the Pioneers, after reaching base on a single. Senior Tucker Laurence picked up the RBI for knocking in Dane with a single.

The Loggers answered back with a run of their own in their half of the inning with an RBI for Chaz Kramer. Puget Sound extended its lead to 4-1 in the third inning. Casey Coberly, who scored the Loggers first run, picked up an RBI of his own with a single. A double-steal allowed the next Logger run to come in, while a solo homerun by Jeff Walton completed the scoring.

Puget Sound finished its scoring in the seventh inning with Andrew Grady scoring on a triple from Matt Cox. Cox came around to score moments later on a ground out.

Junior Michael Ball earned a run back for the Pioneers in the top of the eighth inning, but it would not be enough to earn the Pios the victory.

The two sides will try to play two games on Sunday, March 27 with the first game beginning at 11 a.m.
